"No one cares about the man in the box."
"Lost" was AWESOME tonight. Desmond-centric episode that also largely features Charlie? YES PLEASE.
All except for the ending. Roomie!Em and I were both squealing out, "NOOOOOOOOO!"
Sadface.

....Anyone wanna guess on how many Des/Charlie slashers are gonna come out of the woodwork after that ep? XD (I may not write a lot of slash, but I know the earmarks when I see 'm)

Also, "The Prestige" = a great, great movie. Although it makes the big assumption about its viewers that they're...er... more skeptical than me. But aside from that, it's well-shot, well-acted, and most of the twists (most) blew my mind.

Anyway. Enough about things that other people have acted in, cause I just got cast in a SHOW!!!

Not just any show (though what show, really, is "any show?"). "Travesties", by STOPPARD. I have a huge love for Stoppard, mainly based off of "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern", but what more do you need, really :P I am playing Lenin. That's right, I am playing a dude. A revolutionary communist dude. Who hangs out in the library and gets to make a huge speech in Act 2. In a Stoppard play! EEEE.

The shocker was that Gabe was not cast as Tzara. I dare anyone who reads this and knows Gabe to admit, truthfully, that they did not read that character description and think it was a no-brainer. Not that Shane (who did get cast) doesn't fit the description as well, but maybe since Gabe's in my acting class my brain went to him first.

Anyway, I am way too hyper for 1 AM, especially since I have to get up early tomorrow.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

ETA: Oh yeah. It goes up at the end of May. ^__^

Congratulations!!! I haven't read that play, but it sounds kickass, and Stoppard is totally the shit. Yay you!

Congratulations... aaaand COMMUNIST PARTY!!!

While Stoppard's "R&G" has certainly inspired and informed my own work, he has also written or co-written some of my favorite films, including "Brazil" by our mutual buddy Terry Gilliam, "Shakespeare in Love" which I actually like so much I own the screenplay for, and -- of all things -- an uncredited rewrite of "Revenge of the Sith". Yes, it's true.

So that's good enough for me! :p

Now, I'm not going to pretend I've ever sat down and thought, "you know, I bet she'd make a pretty good Lenin," but upon some pondering, the face shape and the nose are a pretty damn good match. Holy Christ, I'd pay five bucks to see that. Did you know going in there would be gender-bending and that sort of experimentality, or was this a complete surprise?

I knew going in that the director was casting gender-blind. Which is great because hey, more chances for the ladies to act. :) Hoo-ha!

As you're already aware, I've done my share of 'gender-blind' casting on roles written as males--not for artistic reasons, unfortunately, but because finding guys proved impossible. Girls signing up in droves, maybe four or five guys. EVERY film audition. (Male Northwestern actors reading this: consider that an insider tip.)

In both of MY films' cases it proved a great improvement: I think "Allergic Girl" adds a layer of humor that "Allergic Guy" would not have, and as for the other project, I think you've already sat through my effusive praise of Carolyn Siegel.

(Hey, while we're at it, Sigourney Weaver's character in "Alien" was written male...)

So I know there's an opportunity here for this to turn out genuinely interesting. Obviously when a girl first walks on as Lenin there'll be a "stunt casting?" vibe--but that only means you'll have jumped all the more impressive a hurdle by curtain calls!

Girls signing up in droves, maybe four or five guys.

Eer, that ain't exactly a phenomenon. For a certain recent theatre audition I think I counted 20 girls and 7 guys showing up--for 1 female role and 2 male.

Sorry to randomly comment on your page which has nothing to do with your post but I am doing a dissertation on Takarazuka and I need more people to fill out my questionnaire. I was originally looking for japanese females to fill out my questionnaire now I'm looking for females of any nationality. It's only 3 questions. I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to fill it out. I just looked up people who are interested in Takarazuka on LJ. I have also joined the Takarazuka forum. Thanks in advance.

1. What are your opinions of the women who play "otokoyaku" in Takarazuka?
1.あなたは宝塚で“男 役”を演じる女性についてどう感じますか。

2. What are your opinions on women in theatre? do you think it is a respectable profession? if yes please state why, if no please state why.
2.演劇で女性が演じるこ とについてどう感じますか。また、それは立派な職業だと思いますか。そう思う人も 思わない人も理由も一緒に書いてください。

3. The "otokoyaku" are popular for being less threatening than men. For those of you who like actresses that play "otokoyaku" could you in your own words describe what it is that you like about them. For those of you who don't particulaly like "otokoyaku" can you understand why people idolise the "otokoyaku" actresses? If yes please state why. If no please state why.
