Since I'm leaving for Oxford tomorrow, Everything's Eventual will have to go back to the library, so I skipped ahead and read the story of 1408. At 2 AM. And it is way, way scarier than the movie. And I read it at 2 AM.

"A life rule if you're going to read those things: during the day, near a bunny." -Dad

That may be the best advice I've gotten so far this year.

And yes, I leave for Oxford, and BADA, tomorrow. There's no internet access in the dorms. :/ There are interweb cafes around town, but time will be limited. And so I say to you, as usual: see ya on the flip-side!

I leave you with the ship-meme and a buncha quizzes.

Follow-up Questions: Spoilers for various things within )

Jack Sparrow's (mostly) loyal first mate, you spend most of your time fishing your captain out of trouble-- or fishing yourself out of whatever trouble your captain's gotten you into this time. The proverbial old salt, you've seen and heard just about everything there is during your time at sea, and you always have a story or two up your sleeve, especially when the films require some helpful expository dialogue.

Battlestar Galactica, Jeffrey A. Carver

I am SO behind on this. O_O

Example of how BSG is an amazing show: After seeing everything that's happened since the beginning, to re-experience the mini-series (either watching or in this case, reading) and see in these characters the despair and disbelief at what's happening around them, is to shake your head and say, "You have NO idea..."

Went to the Waa-Mu cast/crew party tonight, after heping Bruce with his film-class project (I was a vampire! and totally got to embrace/devour [info]intorporeal. Had a couple of Smirnofs, played never-0have-I-ever, engaged in pleasant conversation. Gooooooooooooooooooood times. Hadn't had anything to eat in ling enough to justify all these typos after two drinks ^__^;;;

Emily S said I might be "the new her" next year. I would definitely not mind being the new her at all, especially since she did costumes AND was in the show.

Love and typos,
Emily

Weekly BSG Comments )

I keep getting these odd catalogues in the mail. They're all called things like "Stuff You Never Knew Existed" or "What on Earth" and contain things like aprons with "witty" sayings and kistchy sculptures. I'm not exactly complaining; I got John's Christmas present from one of them (a model of the Bluesmobile and action figures of the Blues Brothers), but I find it kind of odd I'm the only one in the apartment of four people who gets them. They just started coming one day, randomly. :\

Also, I'd like to turn everyone on to a site called SongSearch. I found it while conducting a search for the Dutch Elisabeth CD, since Amazon had none. This site said it had it, for $22--the only seller on Amazon I'd ever seen had been selling it for $40. I was skeptical at first, but I Blingoed around a bit and found no reports of scandal. So I ordered.

'Elisabeth', the Dutch recording, arrived in my hands today. It took a while (though the site warns of that) and it's obviously a used copy, but it's in good order. So consider this endorsement; if you're ever searching for an obscure CD (or DVD), SongSearch is a good place to look :)

I am, by the way, lovin' Stanley Burleson as Death so far (they call him "De Dood" in Dutch! Hehehehehehehehe). He's so unlike any other I've heard. People like Mate Kamaras and Uwe Kroger rock out, and that certainly is fun to listen to, but Stanley by contrast is so understated. I can just imagine him slinking around the stage--so cool he doesn't need to scream the notes to prove his point.

Listen to De Laatste Dans to see what I mean.

And yeah, this is pretty much my favorite Elisabeth cast on the whole. Heck, I even dig the "Kitsch" on this one.

(Although no one will ever beat Takarazuka's version of the Prologue until they figure out those notes are sung 1,000 times better legato than staccato. Who made that decision anyway? :P)

ETA: OMG THE SEXY DRUMS on Er Valt Een Zwarte Schaduw. Addo Kruizinga as Rudolf WINS. WINS.
...But seriously, that made my heart speed up.

I dreamed last night that I was planning to run away to Japan. Not for long, just for a week or so.

In the non-dream world, the cheapest offer for air fare to Tokyo seems to be around $500.

But still, if I ever spontaneously disappear, don't rule it out.

Ficcy over at my writing journal. Battlestar Galatica. Hopeful beginning to a big honkin' Baltar-fic. In any case, I already have dialogue for when he finally meets up with Six XD Forget just having Six in yer head, it's damn hard to concentrate in class with both of them chattering away at each other.

Anywhoo.

So hey [info]rocknlobster, it didn't take me as long to finish as I thought it would. XD

Meme: The Top 10 Fictional Characters I'd Nail.

Personally, I don't like the word "nail". But I guess by its use it's suggesting pure sex without emotional attachment or really, anything beyond skin-depp (skin-deep. wow. freudian slip, anyone?) attraction. Which, really, is tough for me to fathom. Usually my attraction to someone has quite a bit to do with the personality or character traits of said person. But I did my best.

You may notice Nick Stahl is nowhere on the list. Believe me, I considered including him, but given that my very first reaction to him was “WOW you are weird-lookin’”, I don’t think we could say it’s a shallow attraction by any means. It’s very much a respect thing, and if anything, respect should matter very little in this meme.

ALSO. There are two characters from Battlestar Galactica on here, and my little paragraphs about ‘em include spoilers for seasons 2.5 & 3. If you care about that kinda thing.

Enough talk.

The Top 10 Fictional Characters I'd... well, y'know. *giggles* )

I keep writing things to keep me distracted from thinking too much about NaNo (5 days away HOORAY!). Fanfic, but still. Writing is good.

One of the stories is "Mutation", sequel to the EarthBound-fic "Cycle". I really am kicking myself in the ass to get it finished, since if there's ever been a fandom I've been able to claim some fame in, it's EarthBound. It may be a small fandom, but nevertheless, they kinda love me over there, and I'm sick of letting myself and them down by keeping the story in limbo. So yes.

Also I just spent an hour and a half writing the first 840 words of what could very well become a frackin' enormous Battlestar Galactica fic. Enormous on the scale of [info]alyxbradford's Bellatrix Black-Lestrange bio-fic. And pretty much along the same lines. Any guess as to whose life I'm crafting? *shifty eyes* I plan to pseudo-Nano this fic alongside "Mutation" once November is over and I'm waiting for [info]lassarina to beta my original work. Because I am nuts.

I also have been getting ideas for a NEW EB-fic on top of all that. IT'S TOTAL ATTACK OF THE PLOT BUNNIES.

But, y'know, writing is good.

Also, along the line of fandom-y things, I sent Jonathan Coulton a link to the Code Monkey Dance because someone messaged me on YouTube saying he'd get a kick out of it. And I thought, why not? So we'll see.

And now, quizzes. Just cause they've been stacking up for a while.

LOST!

*does a dance*

This is the first year I've actually paid attention to when regular-season-type television was starting. All the other shows I've ever been way into have either had way erratic seasons ("Monk") or been on HBO ("Carnivale"). Or have been the Daily Show.

Also, 10th season of South Park. Ohhellyes.

Funny quotage from Television Without Pity about Battlestar Galactica (no spoilers):

Baltar has been summoned to Roslin's office. . .She welcomes him and offers him tea in such a frightening way that I expect to see a human finger bobbing around inside it. "Hot cup of airlock, bitch?"

Hehehehehe.

Also, in case anyone out there actually does watch Battlestar Galactica, I have thoughts about something I watched recently. ([info]herod_the_nut, this has to do with an ep you haven't seen yet).

Cut for Season 2 spoilers )

Now time to go do homeworks sos they can be finished and [info]herod_the_nut can come over. Fwee!
