People around me keep using the word "godly" to describe things. People who don't even have ANYTHING to do with each other. I think this is a sign I'm supposed to start using it, too.

Anyway! On Sunday, [info]lanthiriel and I went to Ren Faire. It got rained out, and we were only able to be there for 2 hours. :\ Which was doubly unfortunate because I was really rather proud of my costume. But I did have a short nifty photo shoot before I left :D Behold ze pictures!: Faery Bard.
What you can't see in these is that I'm actually wearing a dress. Shock and horror, right? ;) It's a snazzy brown velvetty dress with a short, jaggedly-cut skirt. And then I wore brown tights and boots. And a belt with a pouch on it to hold my moneys and camera and phone. And I tied my flute to the belt. HOORAY.
I really like that costume.

Speaking of playing dress-up, I think I ought to share a new fandom of mine, since it's one that not a whole lot of people on my f-list know about, and I'm likely to bring it up in some fashion every now and again.

Back when I'd first arrived in Japan, I was looking through my guidebook for interesting theatre-y places to go. One of the ones that caught my eye was a place called Takarazuka. The book mentioned that it was an all-female troupe that performed western musicals in a very dramatic fashion. Just from that description I knew it was something I had to see.

There should be no question why I found this intriguing. Now, the exact question of why I enjoy a bit of crossdressing every now and then is something for the therapists to work out after I finally lose it :P But I do. And I am insanely jealous that these girls get to do it FOR A LIVING. Check out their cast of 'Guys and Dolls' doing Luck Be A Lady to see what it's like.

Why don't I get to play Sky Masterson (or, as [info]adampb just made me admit I'd rather play, Nicely Johnson)? Why haven't I heard about anything like this in America? GAH.

And does it seem ironic to anyone else that just when I've started getting back into wearing skirts, I discover that this exists? Good gravy.

Anyway, Takarazuka is Japanese musicalish (godly?) crossdressy fun on a stick, and you can expect to be hearing more about it in the future. :P

^ overheard yesterday while walking up Sheridan.

Okay, so I didn't make a drunk!post yesterday, but I really never got too drunk to begin with. Dillo Day was still tons of fun.

One of the best parts was the X-MEN SHOW at Shanley. It was at 11 AM, but as was to be expected the crowd was absolutely insane. Free pink hats were passed out along with plastic megaphones and whistles.

X-Pictures! And Videos! OMG! )

And then it was back to the Whale for drinkies and funtimes.

Today we saw X-3.

I'd post more, but I'm tired.

The World of the End trailer! For those who don't know, tis the short film of [info]adampb's I recently acted in. Rather different from Pat Gets a Cat.

S'all for now.

EDIT: Meanwhile... OMG there's another of me. Who is also an actress.

If she's not in the Union by the time I graduate, it's gonna be a race for the name. XD Maybe I'll have to rock the middle initial.

I DID IT! 5-minute horse stance. Not the first time I've ever done it, but the first time in a long time. Now the trick is to get it to be as easy as 1-minute :)
"We Wish" by Ayumi Hamasaki (the song I use to time myself, since it's just over 5 minutes) says it's been played 16 times on my iTunes. Woo. I suppose another part of the "trick" would be to do the 5 minutes without the song. Having it is kind of a comfort-zone thing.

This weekend has been spectacularly fantastico. John's birthday in Chicago meant a lot of meandering around the Magnificant Mile, randomly stumbling upon a street performer (who juggled a knife under his leg while atop of 6-foot unicycle*), and going to see Second City's mainstage, a show called "Iraqtile Dysfunction". Much of the the hilarious.
Saturday brought Alice's seder at UChicago. Roomie!Emily was kind enough to drive us and save us the two-hour el-and-bus ride it would have taken to get there. We made all the non-Jews do the "children's" parts, like asking the Four Questions and hiding the afikomen. My favorite part of seder is still the part where we do math (Hand of God = 250 PLAGUES BITCHES. Or not). Then we rushed back for the last hour and a half of DCP. Though I wasn't there long, I still had an incredibly awesome combat with the guy who's shaped up to be my enemy. There was a point at which we were 95% sure we'd both be kicking the bucket by the end of game, but neither of us ended up dead.

Next game oughta be interesting.

Idea of the Weekend:
"Okay. Siamese twins... And one of them is an Exalt."

Aaaaand some photos )

*You can upload videos onto Photobucket now? JOY.
I don't know why it's still sideways. I was able to rotate it in Quicktime and save it that way, but when I uploaded it, it went horizontal again. Meh.

Some of you knew I was making this--well, it's finally finished.

FIREFLY FANVID: 'STARS' // SWITCHFOOT
.MOV Format | iTunes Format
(Spoilers: clips from all over the series)

Been working on this one since September: snags included varied vacations, learning how to cross-fade properly, and the period of mourning following 'Serenity'. Not to toot my own horn too much, but I'm pretty proud of having finished it ^___^ So Firefly fans--please to watch? Enjoy? Tell your friends?
The iTunes-ness was mostly for my own benefit, but if anyone else wants to carry my vid around with them, I won't complain. :)

And in case you missed my first attempt at fan-video:

CARNIVÀLE FANVID: 'MEANT TO LIVE' // SWITCHFOOT
.MOV Format | iTunes Format
(Spoilers: clips from Season One)

As I said to [info]herophelia when I started in on the Firefly vid, I think I'm destined to only ever make Switchfoot videos.

Since I'm just going crazy with the linkies tonight, how about a Song of the Day:
DOA // Foo Fighters
I actually think this would make a great 'Serenity' video. The concept strikes me as amusing, in a really, really morbid way.
